dog

1、Let sleeping dogs lie. (Don't wake a sleeping dog. )莫惹是非。

2、He died like a dog. (He died a dog's death.)他死得很惨。

3、He led a dog's life. 他过着贫困的生活。

4、This country is going to the dogs. 这个国家要垮台了。

cat

1、A cat may look at a king. [谚]猫也可以看国王。(指小人物也应该有些权利)

2、There is nothing for it but to wait and see how the cat jumps. 眼前只有静待,看看事情如何转变。

3、Has the cat got your tongue? 你为什么不吭声?(猫把你的舌头叼去了吗?)

fox

1、He was an old fox. 他是个老奸巨滑的家伙。

2、When the fox preaches,then beware of your geese. [谚]狐狸说教时,要当心你的鹅。

3、I play the fox several times,pretending to be in pain,有几次我故意装疼。(play the fox 耍滑头)

goose

1、I don't think they will kill the goose that lays golden eggs. 我想他们不会杀鸡取蛋的。

2、All his geese are swans. 他老是言过其实。

3、Don't always make a goose of him. 别老是愚弄他。

4、The dishonest official knew his goose was cooked when the newspaper printed the story about him. 那个贪官看到报纸上登出他的事情,知道自己一切都完了。(cook one's goose 毁掉自己;cook sb's goose毁掉某人)

horse

1、He works like a horse.

2、She can now eat like a horse. 她现在非常能吃。

3、Never look a gift horse in th mouth!收到礼物绝对不要挑毛病。

4、He is an interesting fellow,but he is a bit too fond of riding the high horse. 他倒是个有趣的人,不过有点趾高气扬。

5、I have it straight from the horse's mouth that the minister is retiring. 我听到可靠的消息说,部长即将退休。

chicken

hare

1、If you run after two hares,you will catch neither. [谚]同时追赶两只兔子,一只也捉不到;脚踏两头船,必定落空。

2、First catch your hare then cook him. [谚]先抓到兔子再煮兔肉;到手才能算数,勿谋之过早。

eel(黄鳝)

1、You can't catch it——it is as slippery as an eel. 你抓不住它,它滑得很。

2、Don't do business with him——he is as slippery as an eel. 别跟他做生意,他十分狡猾。

bear

1、He is a bear for work. 他很能干活。

2、He is a bear for physics. 他对物理极感兴趣。

3、He is a bear for punishment. 他经得起折磨。(他在艰苦中坚强不屈。 )

4、Catch the bear before you sell his skin. (Sell the bear's skin before one has caught the bear. )[谑]先捉到熊再卖皮。意指不要太乐观。([谚]熊未捉到先卖皮。意指过早乐观。)

horse(非常健壮;精力充沛)
